For the love of Poles

How many of you have been to a Pole Party?

Come on, honestly? Been invited by a friend, gone to see what its all about?

Well, I can now say that it is something that would be crossed off my list, if I had a list and if that was one of the items on that list!

Come last Friday night, after a manic day with a grumpy and non sleeping overtired child, who I eventually bundled up and took for a drive down to Kirstenbosch Gardens (she fell asleep in an instant) to meet up with a friend of mine with her baba (10days older than Bean). We had a great time, the sun was up and Bean ran around in nothing but her nappy, squelched feet in the mud, ate maries (me crunchies), chased the birds away and drank the other baba's water (and refused to give the cup back for at least 5 minutes).

Left at 4pm to try and beat the traffic but alas, that was not to be, hit a major jam on the M5 for the Paarl turnoff, and I decided to be brave and try a new way home. I hate being stuck in traffic! I didn't really know where I was going, phoned The Man in a mad panic and asked for directions, which didn't really work as he didn't quite know where I was, so I just drove, hoping it was in the right direction. I am so proud to say that I made it home, I found my way down roads I knew Id been before, which had feint reminders of knowing 'I must be going in the right direction', and I was. But still got home late as that took me an hour to drive, but at least I wasn't sitting in that horrid traffic for an hour!

Anyhoo, got home, was suddenly reminded of 'Invite to Pole Party', rushed, got Bean bathed by Man, sorted supper, The Man gave supper while I raided my non going out wardrobe for a something to wear (So, need a shopping spree), literally danced around under the shower head for about 3 minutes and had myself ready in the minimum time quota available and then was off. To said Pole Party. With The Mans sister, who is also his twin.

Now, to be honest, I was feeling a little sceptical about this whole thang, not reeeaaallly my cup of tea, seducing a pole, but was willing to open the mind and see what it was all about. Arrived at the venue ( the lady hosting its house) had a glass of wine to steady the nerves and quieten the adrenalin which was already racing around my blood stream after managing to find my way home, chatted, ate some food (lovely spread, which was very fortuitous, as I was starving), and then, the Pole lady arrived!

Pole was erected in the living room, with more than enough space for one to swing and gyrate body parts around and the music was ready. But before any of it could begin, we all had to sign an indemnity form! Makes one even more sceptical, doesn't it, but apparently, it has been said that some woman get quite inebriated, then brave and then, injured, so all in the name of safety I guess...

Pole Lady showed the first move, how to walk around this pole, seductively of course and to do a sort of whole body quiver against it, hips and boobs jutting and then we all had a go, one after each other and then Pole Lady showed the next move and on it went.

I cant remember all the names of the moves, I remember not taking part in one of them as I just knew I would look like a right pratt trying it out, but the rest I did. Along with the others. Now, I'm sure that most of you will know what its like going into a room with a group of mothers, who haven't been out for a while, probably don't get out that much and wine is the flavour of the evening. Cue screeching, laughing and innuendos of note randomly being thrown into the conversations, if you could hear above the screeching!

And there we were Pole Dancing.

One by one.

It is very interesting how one has to have some reserve of confidence in order to seduce a pole and to look the participants in the eyes as one tries. I think that is very most likely why there is almost always alcohol involved, lowers those barriers and gives that confidence a shove. Well, at least that's what I blame for this...

THE FIREMAN!

I know, I cant believe I am actually putting this picture up, but it was fun and I looked so unsexy and unsultry hugging a pole, that it needs to be laughed at!

You wont see the rest of them, that's for sure...
