I have done it, I have read the 'Twilight' Series.
I finished off Breaking Dawn this morning, well just before lunch time actually. Bean was kind enough to have a sleep from about 11 so I had time to finish off the last couple of pages before she woke up.
So, now time for my opinion:
Bella annoyed me the whole way through the book (I skipped large parts of her when she was talking about how beautiful Edward was, how she wasn't beautiful, how could Edward love her and all the various teenage anxsty things that were her usual train of thought)
I cannot officially be called a 'Twilight' fan (I read the books but wouldn't recommend them for other people to read, unless of course they were looking for something mindless...just like you said Clive!)
The first three books were pretty much the same ish (Bella annoyed me, I liked Jacob and Alice, Edward was a little besotted and greatly protective, there were a few fights going on and all through them, Bella annoyed me)
I enjoyed the last book the most, in fact, if I had only read that one, I would of enjoyed it too. (That's when things really start happening, Bella becomes not annoying! I really like Bella not being annoying, I really do think I am more of a fan of 'kick ass' women, be they teenagers or not)
I was hoping that with all the reference to no one being able to read Bella's mind, or should I say, get into Bella's mind ,that it meant something really cool, and in the end it did, sort of.
But all in all, they were OK, I'm glad that I have read them. I can now honestly say that they really arent my cup of tea, but definitely readable. Still think the media has a lot to do with the huge fanfare its got though.
And so now, I am 'Twilight'-less.
(Thank goodness for Tom Robbins! His new book arrived in the post last week and I am keeping it as a reward for after my exam and I am just soooo excited!)
I still think I may be somewhat jaded, that the eternal love thing just didn't sit well with me at all. Hmm, I wonder if theres something wrong with me, after all?

I fully agree with you about Bella, however I do think that many teenage girls are *just* like her. They daydream, scrawl the boys name all over everything etc etc.
The book is written for teens not jaded thirty somethings like us. LOL. I, too, skipped MANY pages of her musings and adoration about Edward.
My enjoyment with the books stemmed mainly from the content - I thought they were clever, the characters were well thought out and the final book was excellent. Def the best one.
I must say you read the 4 books blerry fast!!
Glad you read them, even though you thought them less than stellar. I always appreciate comment from people in the know.
re-reading my comment ... sounds so dumb ... what I meant about enjoying the content is that I have read soooo many books involving courtrooms / autopsies / psychological thrillers / family sagas etc etc that reading a novel involving mythical creatures was just damn fun. Utterly mindless and fun.
You know, I do have to agree with you on that point, they were fun to read. The storyline was good and that is so true, it is written for teenagers! I think I kept forgetting that. I kept waiting for the 'something' to occur which would explain various things eg the mind thing with Bella, I think I kept reading tooo much into the story;-)
but I am glad I read them, they werent a waste of time and they def kept me entertained in those wee hours of the night/morning when I couldnt sleep!
