Blood, of all things

On Tuesday, I went and had a live blood analysis test.

Due to a slight health hiccup, I decided to see if my blood could let me in on the secret as to why it was occurring. I won't reveal the health hiccup, rather blah and non interesting but the blood test, now that was interesting!

There I was , in the health shop where they did the tests, I sat down in this tiny room, which had enough space for two chairs, the microscope and computer. The blood reader guy, myself and Bean in her pram were all nicely squashed in and I was asked to spit into a spoon. Eeugh, was my first thought! Well, I did, and was then told that my pH level was too acidic. And did you know that acidity in the body is one of the main causes of about 150 diseases? All because the body's' pH is supposed to be alkaline and due to our diet and life styles, it isn't.

Blood reader guy then asked for my left hand, to prick my finger, for that essential drop of blood. Now, I didn't really know what to expect but it was SO cool! My blood was put under the microscope and suddenly there it was, large as life on the screen. I could see all the blood cells, slowly moving along at their blood cell pace, some not the size they should be(due to lack of enough water, my blood cells were dehydrated, and I thought I drank enough water, clearly not!), apparently there is fat and protein in my blood which aren't being digested properly(I'm not entirely sure as to why not, I can't remember, something to do with positive and negative ions in the blood cells and cellular liquid and lack of water. I could see the cholesterol, the good ones! and hormones which weren't being correctly utilised by the body(and herein lay the secret to my hiccup)due to lack of Omega 3 and 6s. So for the last couple of days I have been taking them and in only two days, I can see a difference! Amazing!

The best part of the whole seeing live blood thang was that I saw a macrophage! In honest to goodness real life, not on a page in a book or a computer, and never mind that, it was My macrophage! Now macrophages are a type of T cell which eats all the nasty lurgies lurking around in the blood and they look a bit like a wriggling mass of black squiggles. Sort of worming in between blood cells. Now, I know that sounds a wee bit odd, but it really was so cool to see. I remember when I was pregnant and went off for my scan, one of the best parts of seeing Bean 'inside' was the fact that I saw her tiny scapula. It was beautiful! Tiny little bones that were growing inside my uterus. And so, it was a similar miraculous feeling while seeing this macrophage. Just on a less emotional level, of course;-)

All in all it was a good adventure. It has inspired me to eat more healthily, and too want to study more about the human body. It truly is an awesome thing!

Lastly, it may seem a little strange that my post before this one was about vampires, and now I'm harping on about blood, but there really is no connection at all...
