I cannot believe how the time has flown, one minute you were two little blue lines on a stick and now here you are five years later and blooming into a beautiful young person.
I wanted to write you a letter, I keep meaning too, it has been on my list of things to do, for years now. Something tangible for you to read, when ever you need to. To know how much I love you always, that you have changed my life and taught me what love is. To remind you of things which you will forget, at least for a while, but you will again, remember.
So, here we go:
Dear Gemma,
Watching you grow is an amazing experience. Watching you hurt always hurts me too. Watching you grasp concepts makes me feel so proud. Watching your kindness and sharing reminds me to be kind too. Watching you love makes me love you till my heart could burst.
What an awesome little person you are. Kind, considerate, caring, loving and full of wonder. Your joy and happiness is a blessing, just as you are. I am constantly thankful for you even 'when I am cross'. Even when I find your behaviour frustrating. Even when I am confounded by you.
I love that you love reading, I love that you have an imagination that I could only wish for. That you can play by yourself for ages on end, that you talk to your toys and that even sticks can have conversations! That you take joy in the little things.
I love that you love to be class captain, and that you help your school friends when they need assistance. That you are the 'Big Girl' in school and are relishing and thriving on that.
I love your new interest in Animal Documentaries but still love your animations. Learning new things, you are constantly asking questions, why? What does that mean? Where, when and how. Thank goodness for google because I really don't know the answers to half your questions. Your interest in stars and space and soaking up every little morsel amazes me.
You Amaze me.
Now, just some things that I want to remind you,
* You are You, you do not need to be anyone else, you are perfect and unique and special and if someone doesn't like you, then they can lump it. Not everyone in life will like you but if you like yourself then that is good.
* Always be kind, give a smile, even if you don't feel like it, you don't know what someone else is feeling or going through
* Be strong, but you can also be weak, that is when you have your support group, friends who will stand by you, family who loves you, in heartbreak and in heartjoy.
* Never let a man or woman for that matter, hit you. Violence is not the answer.
* Stand by what you believe in but be open to other peoples opinions and listen.
* Make sure that people treat you with respect and you do the same. Respect is important, if you don't respect yourself, no one else will.
* Set your boundaries, but allow people in.
* Laugh as much as you can, as often as you can
* Love with your whole heart
* Be thankful Every day!
And that is just for now, who know I may add to this list as you grow older:-)
For now, my darling, live joyfully, cry and let your sadness out, be kind to animals and remember that I love you mostly muchly more and more.
Happy Birthday, my darling girl.
Love mom
