So, if you are reading this now, you will see that 10.17pm is not really all that late.
but then 10.17 gets to 11.17 and then 12.17 and so on, and by the time 13.17 comes around its officially tomorrow, and still sleep alludes, then you know there's a problem. This is coming into my second week of not sleeping well and I am tired. It doesn't help when there is a person fast asleep next to you who sounds like a rattling chain saw that just can't get properly started and the only other bed in the house is your two year old's who is a sprawler and doesn't need much to keep her warm during the night. I on the other hand, need at least three blankies plus winter jaamies.
The only other place one can sleep is on the couch, which is just that little bit too small that one feels like a squashed bug in between the cushions(if one stays in the foetal position) and like an over sized giant if ones feet are hanging over the edge.
Added to the no sleep situation, Little Bean has started waking as the sun comes up (as she very politely tells me at the crack of dawn, mom, the suns coming up, time to get up) which means that between 1am and 5am there is between 3 and 4 hours sleep depending on how quickly brain shuts off and if there is a movie on the computer that will keep Bean entertained until 6.30 so mom can get some more shut eye....
Sitting in front of the computer doesn't help as apparently the light from it confuses the body clock by making it think it is still daytime, but the noisy chain saw ensconced in my bed is just getting louder so I guess I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.
But (and this is where my electricity ran out and I lost the last bit of this post, and of course, was only able to post today) so I am not sure what my sentence starting with but was, but I think it was something along the lines of going to sleep in Bean's bed with her, which I duly did, and managed to get about 5 hours sleep!

Oh so sorry ...there is almost nothing worse than not getting a good (or half decent) night sleep.
I have no answers.....except that I usually have a glass of wine before bed- which makes me a tad sleepy.
Nap today?
Nothing worse than not sleeping...
Unfortunately I only know about not sleeping from a baby, not from insomnia!
But I also struggle with the "chain-saw" in my room! You've got all my symnpathies! ;-)
Something bothering you?
I don't often suffer from not being able to sleep.... however, when I do, inevitably, I am overtired. Have you tried getting to bed by 10 or 10.30pm?? - just for a period - or if you're usually watching TV or using the computer up until that time, making an earlier cutoff point...?? or finding some other way to quieten the period leading up to bed time.... - the aim being is to get to bed early and relax into your sleep - go through a kind of medative process of rounding off the day, rather than lying there all stressed that you're overtired, knowing that you're just gonna lie there for hours....
I find that if I go to bed too late - when I am truly dog tired - my body and mind is wired - my nerves are already taking strain, and I'm unable to easily relax - when I do fall asleep, I have weird dreams and sensations that keep waking me.
Otherwise, alternative to a little herb is maybe perhaps a herbal or naturapathic med to help you sleep?? Also cut out stimulants in the evening, including alcohol, which has a nasty habit of disrupting sleep.
And at the end of the day, if you've gone to bed nice and early, and you just can't sleep, rather than lie there, maybe try to do something with the time (other than watch TV). I'm sure that advice prob wouldn't work if you're into your 5th night of not sleeping, but I find that getting in another hour or so of doing something that I have been avoiding (like the dishes) often helps me fall asleep - after I'm done the task I feel the sensation of achievement and release, which readies me for the sleep.
It's all about completing the cycles! :-)
Hope you have a sound one! xx
I love that Les always leaves you essays!
Ok, the sleep stuff is Restin. It is a natural tranquiliser and really does help.
The snore stuff is Stop Snoring - www.stopsnoring.co.uk. Whilst it doesn't stop them snoring 100% it does help somewhat.
What about a warm bath with lavendar, a cup of horlicks and then bed. ANd make sure that the snoremonster and snorted his meds BEFORE you get into bed.

LOL! It seems as if all men start snoring at some stage of their lives. I have a sleeping disorder that is part of fibromyalgia. Started new meds yesterday and hoping that Lyrica will be the miracle drug that it is reported to be.
I have had my good share of insomnia - at over emotional times, when I drink sinus meds (I am ephedrine sensitive) and when I am overly tired.
Try some resq remedy - drink every two hours during the whole day. It does work - I promise.
Thank you all for all the tips, I will def give them a go, and hope for the best!
Lynette, I do hope your meds give you the miracle you're after:-)
I sometimes find that I suffer from insomnia if I am slightly dehydrated. Somebody suggested it to me and I thought it rubbish. I then very consiously drank lots of water and who knew - it actually worked.
There is nothing worse than not being able to sleep when everyone around you is! And when you know you have to function the next day.
Kaylin, last night for the first time in about 5 months woke in the middle of the night and I could not get her down for nearly 2 hours! She was in such a good mood and just wanted to play! Eventually though she fell asleep - my fault for letting her have 2 3hour naps on Sunday.
She also stated getting up really early, but block out worked well. I double sided taped her curtains to the wall and clothes peged them together. Does not look that great but hey - and extra hour or so of sleep each morning is soooooo worth it.
