Today, I did something which I don't think I have done for a good 20 odd years.
Bean and I were waiting to cross the road, making sure that there were no cars coming (it was more like a car park road - at Constantia Village Spar, if you know where that is). We had just been into the bottle store (to buy some Savannah due to the summer time evening, I thought that would end off my busy and play dated day rather well, I don't drink all that often anymore so this in itself was a rarity). So, there we were, holding hands, Bean was full of jumping jelly beans and happy and raring to go, so once the coast was clear, we both sort of ran towards the car (literally about 10 feet away) and the next minute...
Somehow (I really am not entirely sure how it happened) I was doing a spectacular leap through the air, it was quite phenomenal how I was propelled across the road and landed with a thud.
The six pack of Savannah went flying, I let Beans hand go and boom (or bum as Bean would say) I landed, she landed a few feet behind me and the bottles weren't broken!
I managed to graze both my left elbow, my left side and both knees. I sort of landed sideways...
Bean was (and is) fine, no grazes for her, I am pleased to say. But I think we both got a little bit of a shock. I have to admit to having the shakes as I stood up, retrieved Bean and the bottles (2 very kind passersby came to see if we were OK - how kind!) and I managed to leave with some sort of dignity intact.
What I found rather ironic about the entire situation (flying leaps and all) was that it occurred right outside the bottle store. Now, that does look rather suspect, doesn't it??
